My Road Less Traveled by Mirna Jursic Jope

I did a district class on digital storytelling and wrote this essay. Currently my juniors in the English class are writing the essays for their movies. Being able to add their own narration, soundtrack and pictures (even if it's just clip art) really make an impact on the essay. Half the class is really working hard on this...as opposed to our usual 'response to literature' essays. They OWN these stories.

If I get their permission, I'd be happy to. There are some wonderful essays that are coming out of these reluctant writers of mine.

Mirna,

Wonderful story! As Bernajean says the hardest thing to do is successfully "dance text, images and audio together on the screen." You tapped an amazing treasure chest of images for this story. I really enjoyed how you used the phone call to travel the timelines of yours and your father's lives. It's never easy to craft a story of the short-comings of our parents, but those are often the most important ones. Your story helps people see the road they can begin to travel as a way of accepting, forgiving and loving those in our lives that have let us down at times.

Will you post some of your students' stories when they're finished?
